3G video services are being launched in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where 3.5G penetration is estimated at 20%. We travelled there in January to present HP OpenCall media server technology and services. We found a high interrest in services such as video portals with sport and music content and also for video-conferencing.
Saudi Telecom Company (STC)
operates a 3G HSDPA networks in KSA under the Aljawal brand.. It is launching national and international video calling with Vodafone Egypt and roaming in : Qatar, Kuwait ,UAE, Bahrain ,Egypt , France . It also offers Mobile TV channels. As an incumbent, STC can leveraqge its large installed base in both fixed and mobile services.
Etihad Etisalat
They operates the 2nd mobile network in KSA under the brand Mobily . Mobily has 6 millions by 2006, and 1 million on 3G HSDPA service. Mobily is introducing mobile TV. As a contender they have to display more inovativeness.
